What Is 18/10 Stainless Steel Flatware?

At the heart of our collection is the premium quality 18/10 stainless steel. Renowned for its superior strength and lustrous finish, this material is the cornerstone of our flatware’s durability and elegance. The “18/10” designation is not just a number—it represents the composition of the steel: 18% chromium and 10% nickel.

This perfect blend imparts our stainless steel 18/10 flatware with exceptional resistance to corrosion and tarnishing, ensuring that each piece retains its gleaming beauty through years of use. The high nickel content significantly enhances its resistance to rust and corrosion compared to lower-grade stainless steel.

Alternatives to 18/10 Stainless Steel Flatware

Alternatives to 18/10 stainless steel flatware include:

  • 18/0: Contains 18% chromium and 0% nickel. This option is less resistant to rust and corrosion due to the lack of nickel. It also tends to be less durable and may not have the same luster as 18/10.
  • 18/8: Contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This option is slightly less resistant to corrosion and rust compared to 18/10. It also might not have the same durability and shine.
  • 13/0: Contains 13% chromium and 0% nickel. This option is less resistant to rust and corrosion, and it is more prone to staining. It is also less durable than 18/10 and lacks the bright shine and luster of higher nickel content flatware.
  • Silver-plated flatware: Base metal (often brass or copper) coated with a layer of silver. Silver plating can wear off over time, revealing the base metal. It also requires regular polishing to maintain its appearance, and it is more susceptible to tarnishing and corrosion.

These alternatives often fall short in comparison due to various drawbacks, such as durability, corrosion resistance, aesthetic appeal, and ease of maintenance. 18/0 and 13/0 stainless steel lack nickel, making them less resistant to rust and corrosion and less durable. 18/8 stainless steel, while slightly better, still doesn’t match the corrosion resistance and shine of 18/10 stainless steel flatware. Silver-plated flatware is not only more expensive but can wear off over time as well, making it prone to tarnishing and wear. In contrast, 18/10 stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance, durability, and a lasting bright appearance due to its high nickel content, making it the gold standard for high-quality flatware.

Why Choose 18/10 Flatware Sets from JazzUpCo?

Our contemporary 18/10 flatware sets stand apart for several reasons. First, the ethical sourcing of our materials guarantees that every piece of flatware you purchase supports sustainable practices and fair labor conditions. Second, the meticulous crafting process ensures each item meets our high standards of quality and design. The result is a range of modern stainless steel flatware 18/10 that is not just a cutlery set, but a statement of your values and style.

Our Flatware Coating Process

For optimal durability and quality, we use Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) on our stainless steel 18/10 cutlery. PVD is the most advanced and strongest coating technology used to deposit a very thin, yet durable, layer of titanium onto the surface of our 18/10 flatware. The process involves heating titanium in a vacuum chamber until it vaporizes. This vapor then condenses onto the flatware, forming a uniform, solid layer that enhances durability and aesthetics. PVD coating ensures that each piece of our flatware exhibits a consistent appearance and exceptional resistance to wear and tear.

What materials do we use to coat our flatware?

Our 18/10 stainless steel flatware is coated with titanium-alloy plating, the strongest material available, developed through our research and development. This alloy combines the strengths of two metals, making it much more durable than standard titanium plating used by other brands.

Our 18/10 flatware is 100 cycles plated in the PVD chamber, meaning the flatware stays in the chamber longer for a more thorough and durable coating, compared to other brands that use entry-level plating that goes through 20 cycles, ensuring a stronger, long-lasting finish.

Why We Chose Physical Vapor Deposition

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating offers numerous benefits, making it ideal for 18/10 flatware. It creates a more consistent and uniform layer compared to other methods, ensuring that each piece of flatware looks flawless and maintains its strength over time. Additionally, the PVD layer is highly resistant to chipping, peeling, and fading, even under frequent use and washing in dishwashers. This makes our flatware not only beautiful but also extremely long-lasting.

Isn't PVD more expensive than other methods? Why is the cost justified?

While electroplating is less expensive and provides an attractive finish, it does not offer the same durability and quality as Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD). Electroplated coatings are generally thinner and more vulnerable to chipping, peeling, and fading. In contrast, PVD produces a coating that is not only visually appealing but also significantly more robust and wear-resistant. This ensures that our 18/10 stainless cutlery remains in excellent condition through years of use. Despite the higher cost of PVD, the investment is justified by the superior quality and longevity it offers. Our commitment to using PVD aligns with our goal to provide customers with the best possible products.

This process, also utilized by NASA for spacecraft, guarantees that our flatware will not only look great but will also withstand the test of time without the typical deterioration seen in less durable finishes. Thus, while the initial cost might be higher, the extended lifespan and maintained aesthetics of our flatware offer greater value in the long run.

Durability Meets Design

Our 18/10 stainless steel flatware isn’t just about looks—it’s built to last. Combining the strength and durability of 18/10 stainless steel with our advanced Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating process, we create a product that stands head and shoulders above the competition. While other brands may offer a similar appearance, they often use lesser materials and coatings, resulting in products that are prone to bending, scratching, and rusting. Our superior PVD coating enhances the already impressive corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal of  18/10 stainless steel, making our flatware superior in terms of durability, corrosion resistance, aesthetic appeal, and ease of maintenance when compared to other alternatives. This synergy of top-tier material and cutting-edge technology ensures that our 18/10 stainless steel flatware remains the preferred choice for discerning customers who value quality, durability, and design.

Our 18/10 stainless steel flatware features an exclusive titanium alloy plating that fully bonds with the stainless steel and doesn't peel. The titanium-alloy plating method ensures the color finish is extremely durable, and is substantially more durable of regular titanium plating. This ensures that your investment not only enhances your dining experience today but continues to do so for years to come.
